As a recent board member representing Hamilton Township, Tom is a well known and very active member of the community. For the past 25 years Tom has been president of Behan Construction, a family owned business started by his father over 50 years ago. Both the business and Tom himself have received accolades for their support of various organizations and projects in Northumberland County. Behan Construction, under Tom’s leadership, was the inaugural winner of the 2007 James Crossen Lifetime Achievement Award. The award is part of the Cobourg Bus Achievment Awards and recognizes outstanding contributions to the community.
Tom is the current president of the Northumberland United Way, and past-chair of the 2006 United Way campaign. He is also a member of the Rotary Club of Cobourg and the Ganaraska Region Conservation Authority. Over the years he has made a substantial contribution to minor sports in the area through his support of hockey, baseball and soccer teams.
Both Tom and his company donate time, money, materials and expertise to many community projects such as The Y Northumberland, Cobourg Public Library, Northumberland Hills Hospital, and the Baltimore Arena to name a few.
