Representing the Town of Cobourg, Fred Long is a key component to the Northumberland CFDC Board of Directors serving as the current Vice-Chair.

A graduate of the Faculty of Arts at the University of Western Ontario, Fred also holds a Master's in Business Administration from York University and a Marketing Management Diploma from Ryerson University.

An educator of over 30 years, Fred was a full-time high school teacher for the Kawartha Pine Ridge District School Board before his retirement. He has lent his expertise in marketing, business and economics to both Sir Sanford Fleming and the University of Toronto, Faculty of Education where he was a professor and instructor of Business Studies. Fred was also an accomplished radio announcer contributing regularly to the local community as a broadcaster and freelance newspaper columnist.

A notable community volunteer Fred has been President of the Cobourg Kinsmen Club, Cobourg Lions Club and has chaired both the Cobourg Waterfront Festival and the Lions Art Show and Sale for a number of years. He has served as both coach and manager to soccer, softball and hockey teams in the area and was an active member on the Board of Directors for both the Cobourg Minor Soccer Association and the Cobourg Opera and Drama Guild. A father of two and grandfather of three, Fred now resides in Cobourg with his wife Joan where he remains a man dedicated to the continued improvement of his community.
