Representing the Municipality of Port Hope and joining the Northumberland CFDC Board of Directors in 2008, Hugh Parker serves as the current Secretary.
Beginning his academic career at the University of Toronto, Hugh graduated with an Honours B.A. in Philosophy and English. He then attended Yale University where he completed his Bachelor of Divinity.
Taking a hiatus from academics Hugh worked as the Assistant to the Principal of Innis College, University of Toronto until 1968. His career then took him north to Lakehead University where he served in various capacities including, Executive Assistant to the President, Chief of Academic Services and Special Advisor to the President. In 1972 he returned to school at the University of Western Ontario where he would complete his LL.B.
In 1977 Hugh joined the Port Hope law firm of Fitzgibbon, Good and Parker where he practiced for a decade, after which he opened his own practice in Port Hope until his appointment as Legal Counsel for the Children's Aid Society of Northumberland in 1988. After nearly 20 years of service with the CAS, Hugh retired in 2007.
A dedicated member of the local community, Hugh has served as the President of the Port Hope Lions Club, the Rotary Club of Port Hope and the Ganaraska Valley Probus Club. He served as Board Chairman of the Port Hope & District Hospital, and as a member of both the Provincial Board of Kinark Child & Family Services and the Port Hope Police Services Board.
Hugh is currently Vice-Chair of the Board of Community Living - West Northumberland and remains an active member of the Rotary and Probus Clubs in his community. A father to 3 daughters, 2 step-sons and a grandfather to 8, Hugh happily resides in Port Hope with his wife Linda Goldie.
